VIC: Melburnians drink more water and it s getting better

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - Melbourne's water quality has continued to improve and was used at
record levels last year despite the introduction of a user pays system, a report released
today said.

The Regulator-General's report also said 43 per cent of "high-risk" industrial plants had
not complied with strict waste discharge rules at least once each in 1997/98.

Melbourne residents used a record 518,000 million litres of water in 1997/98 during dry
conditions - 15 per cent more than average - with each household using an average 245 …
