U.S. Census numbers unite Illinois Black Caucus
Illinois' U.S. Census 2000 figures showing a population shift to the suburbs shouldn't result in the loss of Black districts, Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Joint Chairman Donne Trotter (D-16th) said Thursday, vowing that African American elected officials will not be the political "sacrificial lamb" in the upcoming remap fight.
He was referring to the State Census figures showing a total population being 12,419,293 which is an increase over the 1990 Census of 988,691, or an 8.6 percent population growth over the past decade.
