NSW: Caravan tenants hit by GST: Parliamentary Secretary

The New South Wales government claims more than 50,000 battlers living in caravan parks
will be hit with the GST, while thousands living in luxury properties avoid the tax.

NSW parliamentary secretary to the premier, PAUL CRITTENDEN, has slammed the GST on
residential park permanent residents as disgusting, illogical and unfair.

He says some of NSW's poorest families who live in caravan parks will pay five per
cent more on their rent, or an average of $260 extra a year.

Tenants renting exclusive $1000-a-week properties meanwhile are exempt.

Mr CRITTENDEN says more than 40 per cent of caravan park residents are aged over 60,
three in four didn't do paid work and more than half earned less than $300 per week.
