NSW: Great grandmother jailed for 11 years for husband's murder

SYDNEY, Dec 19 AAP - A 62-year-old woman from the NSW central coast was today jailed
for at least 11 years for the murder of her violent husband.

A NSW Supreme Court jury last month found Noelene Anderson, a great grandmother, guilty
of murdering Robert Grosse at their Rocky Point home on July 1, 1995.

The jury rejected Anderson's claim that she had only killed her husband in self defence.

NSW Supreme Court Acting Justice Thomas Davidson said Anderson strangled Mr Grosse
when he refused to leave their home to make way for her new boyfriend, George Weaver.

She then buried Mr Grosse under the house and Mr Weaver moved in within three days.

Anderson claimed Mr Grosse had vanished but the body was discovered two years later.

While Acting Justice Davidson said Mr Grosse "was a person of violent, abusive and
aggressive disposition", Anderson was not provoked into killing him.

"I find in the absence of provocation the killing of the deceased was premeditated,"

Acting Justice Davidson said.

He sentenced her to 17 years jail with a non parole period of 11 years.

Anderson was first sentenced in February 2000 to 17 years imprisonment with a non parole
period of 13 years for the same crime.

But she won a retrial after appealing against the conviction.
