LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 1997--EveryWare Development Corp. today shipped Tango for Access, an intranet rapid application development (IRAD) tool for building Web-based applications that link Web servers to Microsoft's Access database.
This version of Tango allows Web developers to easily extend Office 97's capabilities enabling fast easy Web application development.
Tango for Access is targeted at the growing number of departmental webmasters who are demanding Web tools that empower, not intimidate. Corporate Intranets are being utilized throughout corporations, from marketing and finance departments to MIS. Today's tools lack the ease-of-use and scalability features that both departmental and corporate webmasters are looking for. Tango for Access provides developers with a visual point-and-click development interface while enabling Web-based applications to scale as traffic increases and resources become available.
Departmental web masters are developing internal web-based applications that utilize Access as a back-end to provide: -0- -- human resource applications; -- corporate directories; -- contact management systems; -- timesheets/project management applications; -0-
Tango for Access provides developers with a visual drag-and-drop development editor -- requiring no expertise in C, Java, SQL, Perl, JavaScript, Visual Basic or HTML. Tango provides a robust, comprehensive visual programming environment that generates complete HTML and SQL code, while allowing developers to customize and control their applications without locking them into pre-defined forms or templates. With Tango for Access, developers do not need the Access application to run their solutions, Tango for Access utilizes the Access database files directly.
"Finally a robust Web development tool for Access developers. I've been looking for a tool that allows me to quickly develop Web sites that utilize Access as a back-end, while providing the ability to scale my applications to larger, more powerful database servers. Tango for Access enables me to develop Web/database applications through a drag-and-drop environment while allowing me to scale to Oracle or SQL Server in the future," said Mark Hadfield, president Bold Internet Solutions Ltd.
Rapid Application Development
Tango for Access' development tool is a visual, drag-and-drop programming environment that gives developers complete control over how Web pages are formatted and how Web-based applications interact with Microsoft's Access database.
The Tango Editor development environment makes use of Query Builders (wizard like templates), which allow users to create solutions that search, insert, update and delete data without having to write any code. These templates are used to get Tango for Access applications up and running very quickly. Once the application has been created in the Query Builder, users have complete control over modification and customization of their applications.
Tango Editor allows for the specification of sophisticated "if-then-else" logic, tracking of user-state throughout sessions, providing application extensibility through the use of DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries), and the ability to automatically email individuals through Temail. The editor also supports all Web related environment variables and includes a JavaScript library that can be used to perform on-line data validation functions.
At the back-end is the Tango Application Server, a Windows NT service supporting NSAPI and ISAPI which provides the interface between the Web server and the Access database. The Tango Application Server's asynchronous & threaded architecture requires only a single Windows NT service to execute all Tango developed applications. This not only provides extremely fast multi-user access, but also provides for re-use of database connections, caching of Tango applications for even better performance and tracking of session data for each user.
The Tango Family
Tango for Access is part of the Tango family of products. EveryWare's family of Tango products include Tango Enterprise, which ships on Windows NT/95, UNIX, and Macintosh. This version enables developers to work with high-end database servers such as: Oracle, Informix, Sybase, SQL Server, etc. Tango Enterprise has received outstanding reviews and awards from industry press for both the Windows and Macintosh versions.
